DEMAND JUSTICE FOR JUNIOR MANON
TORONTO – On Sunday afternoon, over 200 residents of the Jane Finch community hit the streets to demand Justice for Junior Manon, the 18-year-old youth who was killed on Wednesday night after being pulled over by Toronto Police. Lead by Junior’s family, the many in attendance marched from Steeles Ave. and Founders Rd. where he was killed, to Toronto Police 31 Division. Carrying signs that read “Justice for Junior”, “May 5: When we lost our best friend”, and “No Justice No Peace”, the march continued to grow along the way, joined by many more neighbourhood residents, and dozens of cars honking in support.

“Today, on Mother’s Day, Junior’s mom should be with her son,” stated one of the family’s supporters. “She shouldn’t have to be out here demanding answers about why he was killed”.

Despite initial police and media claims that Junior died of a heart attack, witnesses at the scene reported that he was beaten by police. Further evidence that Junior was killed by the cops came from the Manon family’s lawyer, Selwyn Pieters.

“His neck was in a neck brace. His eyes were black and blue. There was blood all over his face,” Pieters stated after seeing Junior’s body at the coroner’s office. “Why are all the injuries there if he suffered from a cardiac arrest?”

Toronto Police have still not released any comment on what happened the night Junior was killed.

Junior’s family, friends and supporters are continuing to organize to demand justice and to demand answers. Please keep checking out the Justice for Junior facebook page for updates, and upcoming events:

The Facebook community has rendered its verdict: The cops killed 18-year-old Junior Alexander Manon.

The messages to the site “Police Killed Teen, We Can’t Let Them Get Away!” range from anger to sadness, but they almost all allege that Toronto Police beat or were responsible for the death of Junior Alexander “Tubz” Manon.

One writer even suggests violence against police.

“Junior Manon, an 18-year-old boy who resided in Shoreham, Jane and Finch, was brutally beaten by the police,” an anonymous writer put on the site. “He died before the ambulance even arrived; they broke his neck.

“These cops can go ahead and say what they want to the world, but we’ve got the truth.”

The death is being investigated by the province’s Special Investigation Unit.

At around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, police stopped a car on Steeles Ave. at Founders Rd. Officially, the SIU said there was “an interaction” between Manon and police, and that Toronto medics were called in. Manon was pronounced dead at York-Finch hospital.

An investigative cone of silence has descended on Manon’s death. The SIU won’t comment because of its on-going investigation. Police won’t talk, saying it’s an SIU probe.

But what if the investigation shows Manon didn’t die of police brutality?

“It is a frenzy,” crime victim advocate Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo said of the page.

“If there are eyewitnesses who saw … police kicking this kid, beating him” come forward and talk to the SIU.”

Toronto Const. Scott Mills uploaded contact information for an SIU investigator for people who have evidence.

SIU spokesman Jasbir Brar said no details will be released until the investigation is completed.

“We can appreciate that this is a very emotional time for the family,” she said. “But as an independent organization, we’re going to do what it takes to ensure a thorough investigation is conducted.

“That’s the bottom line.”
