Mentorship

The mentorship program is a part of YUBSA’s community outreach services.  This program is designed to make a positive difference in the lives of Black students in our community through one to one encounters with youth.

In order to accomplish this we are looking for mentors who are:

1) committed to building up self-efficacy in the students, by helping them set personal and academic goals that are to be accomplished with the assistance of the mentor;

2) committed to helping the students develop an understanding of the school curriculum by being involved in weekly one-on-one tutoring with the student(s) in order to help the student(s) achieve academic excellence;

3) willing to be consistent in their involvement in the program, which will avoid any disappointment that students may feel should a mentor decide to drop out.

Our partners in this mentorship program consist of various high schools and elementary schools in the Jane and Finch area or a school of your choice.  Mentoring schedules are based around the mentor

All mentorship recruits are required to provide a current criminal record check and attend an informal info session.

Please e-mail the mentorship director or visit the office more.
